At 10:10 p.m. Sept. 9, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Charles Street near Bel Alton Newtown Road in La Plata for the report of a vehicle crash.
Investigation revealed a Chrysler Pacifica driven by Andrew Renard Jackson, 19, of Waldorf was speeding when he crossed a double yellow line while attempting to pass another vehicle.
Jackson lost control and struck a curb. His vehicle went airborne, struck the Calvary Grace Church sign and landed upside a short distance away.
Jackson and his five passengers – males between the ages of 16 and 20 – sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Three were transported to Prince George’s County Hospital Center by a Maryland State Police helicopter, one was transported to Civista Medical Center and two were treated on the scene by Emergency Medical Services personnel and were released. Officer D. Brady is investigating.
