WALDORF, Md. – On Friday, July 16, the CCSO family said farewell to a fantastic police officer and member of our family, Sergeant Kris Syvertsen, #325, as he begins his retirement after more than 23 years of dedicated service.

Sgt. Syvertsen began his career with CCSO in 1998 as a Correctional Officer after serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was soon selected to attend the Academy and become a Police Officer. During his 23-year career, he has served in the Patrol Division and the Special Operations Division. He says, โ€œThrough my career, I have enjoyed each and every assignment I have worked in. My greatest joy was being able to impact other peopleโ€™s lives. While we sometimes are overwhelmed with calls or duties, it is the ability to impact one personโ€™s life that really matters. To some it is just another call, but to me it was a way to improve someoneโ€™s day or their situation. I love teaching and helping out fellow officers however I can do that.โ€

Sgt. Syvertsen began his career in Patrol, and eventually was transferred to the Special Operations Division to serve as a Crime Prevention Officer. He later took on the role of the Explorer Post 1658 Advisor and Criminal Justice Program Instructor. He later joined the Traffic Operations Unit, where he also became a Motor Officer. He spent a lot of time sharing his traffic law knowledge as an instructor and supervisor. When he was promoted to Sergeant, he served again in the Patrol Division as a supervisor, and finished his career as the Supervisor of the Traffic Operations Unit.

Outside of work, Sgt. Syvertsen is a Pastor at Broomes Island Community Church and enjoys spending time with his family. He is looking forward to moving south in his retirement.

Kris, you have made an impact on so many people and you will truly be missed. We wish you the very best in your retirement, and please remember that you are always part of the CCSO family. Congratulations!
