Leonardtown, MD – The St. Mary’s County Department of Emergency Services has installed a charging station at each of the three St. Mary’s County Library branch locations for public use. The charging stations, originally purchased to support shelter operations, will be located at the three public libraries for use when not needed for sheltering. Each charging station has a variety of tips to fit many devices including phones, tablets, e-readers, and more. Multiple devices can be charged simultaneously.

“Having the charging stations present at our shelters will allow our citizens to remain in contact with family and friends when displaced by a community hazard,” said Bob Kelly, St. Mary’s Department of Emergency Services Director. “The daily use of this equipment at our three libraries when not in use at a shelter will ensure the operational readiness of the units and offer an additional service to the patrons of our libraries. We appreciate the support that our libraries provide in preparing our community for emergencies.” For more information on Emergency Preparedness in St. Mary’s County visit prepare.stmarysmd.com.

“Many library customers use their own electronic devices in the library and very often they need to replenish its power supply,” commented Kathleen Reif, St. Mary’s County Library Director.  “This new piece of equipment will allow our customers to recharge and keep on working! Thanks to the staff at Emergency Services and Technology for thinking of their library.”

The charging stations are currently available for the public to use at the three branches. The library reminds customers to please stay with their device while it charges.
