Charles County Administrator Dr. Rebecca Bridgett was fired on Tuesday afternoon during a lengthy closed session meeting on a 3-2 vote by the Charles County Board of Commissioners, according to well-placed sources inside the county government. Bridgett was appointed as the County Administrator on July 14, 2009.
Commissioner Vice President Reuben Collins (D) and Commissioner Bobby Rucci (D: 4th) supported Commissioner Debra Davis (D: 2nd) on the move to fire Bridgett, according to anonymous sources. Davis said she could not comment when contacted by TheBAYNET on Tuesday night. Commissioner Ken Robinson (D: 1st) said he could not comment on matters involving county personnel or other closed session legal matters. Commissioner President Candice Quinn Kelly (D) also had no comment.
Rucci and Collins were unavailable for comment. Charles County Public Information Office Crystal Hunt was also unavailable for comment. The move came during a legal session that didn’t end until after 4:00pm, well past the window it was originally scheduled for. The closed session caused the meeting of the Charles County Board of Commissioners to be held up for an hour and a half, forcing some agenda items to be pushed back until the July 10th meeting of the Charles County Board of County Commissioners.
