Charles County will field two sports shooting teams this coming week in support of the U.S. Olympic Shooting teams. Charles County is highly regarded for game management, wildlife conservation, and shooting sports. The event, which is scheduled every other year, will be held at Pintail Point in Queenstown, Maryland, at the River Plantation shooting club on May 5. It will involve over 140 participants in shooting sporting clays from fifteen stations. Funds raised at the event will be go to the Olympics Shooting teams for their support and training. The event will be from 8:30 am to 2 pm. The two Charles County teams representing the Economic Development Department’s Tourism program will be made up of some strong area shooters and some just to show their support as Charles County steps into this highly visible event. Team members are Paul Comfort, Catherine Carroll, Lee McClure, Eric Wilhelm, Gerald Hancock, Tim Welch, Stephen Welch, and Tyler Welch.
Charles County’s Tourism Program promotes many of the areas natural amenities and historical sites, as well as the hunting and wildlife conservation efforts that go back to the County*s beginning. “This is a great opportunity to support the Olympics and show case some of our own in that support,” said Joanne Roland, EDD, Chief of Tourism and Special Events. Catherine Carroll is the project leader and will participate as one of the shooters. Carroll joined the Economic Development Department in 2006 and is an enthusiastic hunter and sportswoman and. “This is a great opportunity for us,” said Carroll, “and the shooting sports and wildlife conservation programs in our County which help maintain a great deal of the highly valued open space we all cherish.
The Maryland Olympic support event was established in 2001 by Paul Facchina, Sr., of the Facchina Group of Companies in Charles County with the key collaboration and support sponsorship of USA Shooting. The Facchina Group of Companies, USA Shooting, and MetaMedia will field over 35 teams for the event.
