The Charles County Sheriff’s Office has gone Hollywood and will hit the Big Screen this weekend.
Well, sort of.
After being awarded a grant from the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention, the Sheriff’s Office and National CineMedia produced a 30-second commercial to discourage minors from consuming or being in possession of alcohol beverages — a crime police take seriously. The commercial will appear before PG-, PG-13- and R-rated movies at the AMC Loews St. Charles Town Center movie theater in Waldorf.
“We thought: What better way to reach the young folks who are already out having a good time, enjoying a movie and contemplating how they will spend the rest of their evening,” said Sheriff Rex W. Coffey. “We were really fortunate to receive the grant because in this economy, it would otherwise be impossible for us to reach kids in this manner.”
The $17,235 grant provided $2,611 for the PSA campaign and additional funding for enforcement efforts and equipment.
The announcement will begin appearing on movie screens Labor Day weekend.
