ย The Bay Net received a report that a student of Stoddert Middle School who was walking to school this morning was struck by a vehicle in Waldorf at the intersection of Smallwood and St. Charles Parkway.

ย Kristen Timko of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office told The Bay Net that the child was flown to Children’s Hospital in DC.

ย “We don’t have all of the details to release that this time, but I don’t believe the injuries were life-threatening.ย  We will have more details later today.”

ย Traffic was detoured for a short while and the scene was cleared by 9:05am.

Wednesday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office released the following information:

ย At 7:13 a.m. Wednesday, Charles County Sheriffโ€™s officers responded to the intersection of St. Charles Parkway and Smallwood Drive in Waldorf for the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

ย Investigation revealed a 42-year-old Waldorf man was driving a 2001 Saturn north on St. Charles Parkway. As he approached the green light at Smallwood Drive, a 12-year-old Waldorf boy attempted to cross St. Charles Parkway from the median.

ย He walked against the direction of the pedestrian signal into the path of the Saturn, which subsequently struck him.

ย The boy was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Childrenโ€™s Hospital. His injuries are said to be non-life-threatening.

ย The driver of the Saturn was not injured. Officer S. Stanley of the Traffic Operations Unit investigated.
