ย Prince Frederick, MD ย – A Prince Georgeโ€™s County police corporal who was arrested and charged following a domestic dispute at his Calvert County home last month is no longer facing charges of second-degree child abuse.

A brief court hearing on the charges Steven Moure (pictured, left) is facing as a result of the Aug. 17 incident was held Thursday afternoon, Sept. 3 in District Court for Calvert County. Moure did not attend the hearing but was represented by the public defenderโ€™s office.

During the hearing, which was presided over by Judge Robert Riddle, Calvert County Assistant Stateโ€™s Attorney Michael Morgan confirmed the prosecution is no longer pursuing the child abuse charge. Moure is still charged with two counts of second-degree assault. A district court hearing on those charges is tentatively set for Oct. 19.

The alleged incident involving Moure and his ex-wife, identified in court documents as Margaret Whitehead, occurred at Moureโ€™s home in Prince Frederick.
According to court documents, Moure told police he became upset when Whitehead โ€œunderminedโ€ his authority as the custodial parent of their three children when she scheduled a doctor visit of their son. Moure also told police he was upset about the disrespect his son was showing toward him.

Investigation of the incident was handled by Cpl. J.M. McCarroll of the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office.

Moure, 35, a nine-year veteran of the Prince Georgeโ€™s County Police Department, was suspended without pay from agencies when his superiors learned by the Aug. 17 incident. A spokesman for the Prince Georgeโ€™s Police Department told The BayNet earlier this week that Moure remains under suspension.
