On Tuesday, Sept. 1, the Charles County Commissioners recognized September as Childhood Cancer Awareness month. Pediatric cancers remain the leading cause of disease-related death for children under the age of 15.ย Research has improved treatment options, increased clinical trial participation, and helped decrease mortality rates for many types of childhood cancer by more than 50 percent over the past 30 years.
September is a time to honor and remember children and families affected by these rare diseases, and rally support to give children with cancer better outcomes.ย The Commissioners encourage residents to support research efforts by participating in fundraising events throughout the month of September and beyond.
