Deputy Richard Figueiras of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to the parking lot of the Dunkirk Safeway on May 16 at about 3:30 p.m. in response to a call regarding three children locked inside a vehicle.
Figueiras approached the vehicle and encountered an adult female walking toward it.ย She advised that she had only been gone for approximately 5 minutes in order to run inside Safeway and pick up a prescription for one of the children.
According to the citizen who had notified the Control Center, the children, all female and being 6 years, 2 yearsย and 18 months old, had been left alone in the vehicle for about 20 minutes.ย The outside temperature was 83 degrees and only the sunroof of the vehicle had been left slightly opened to allow limited air flow.
Gail W. Carroll, 56 of Dunkirk, was issued three citations for leaving the children unattended, which is a violation of Family Law.
