Update - Christmas Eve dispute leaves one dead after firefight

UPDATE: 12/27/17 1:40 p.m. – On December 24, 2017, at approximately 4:04 PM, deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police from the Leonardtown Barrack, responded to a report of a shooting, in the 38000 block of Dukeharts Creek Road, in Coltons Point, Maryland. Detectives and Crime Lab Technicians from the Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene to continue the investigation.

The investigation determined Roger Allen Bruce, age 66, of New Market, VA (pictured, right) was visiting relatives at the residence when an argument ensued. Roger Bruce, began discharging a firearm towards the homeowner, Michael Allen Bruce Sr., age 45, of Coltons Point, MD. The homeowner returned fire striking Roger Bruce. Lifesaving efforts were initiated by responding law enforcement and rescue squad personnel which were not successful. Roger Bruce, succumbed to his injuries at the scene, and was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

The 66-year old subject began discharging a firearm towards the homeowner, a 45-year old male. The homeowner returned fire striking the 66-year old male. Lifesaving efforts were initiated by responding law enforcement and rescue squad personnel which were not successful. The 66-year old male succumbed to his injuries at the scene, and was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Press Release – On December 24, 2017, at approximately 4:04 PM, deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting, in the 38000 block of Dukeharts Creek Road, in Coltons Point, Maryland. The victim ultimately succumbed to the injury, and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The Criminal Investigations Division, (CID), is continuing the investigation. This incident is not random and there is no danger to public.

Coltons Point, MD – Dec. 24, Around 4:30pm a shooting was reported on Coltons Point Road in the area of Dukehearts Creek Road. First responders arrived and found a subject with gunshot wounds.

A witness told TheBayNet.com that there was an argument and then multiple shots were heard.
