SKYWARNยฎ Spotter Class Offered Sept. 21ย 

Would you like to help your local National Weather Service (NWS) office by providing the ground truth on the atmosphere observed from radar, satellites, and various reporting stations?

The National Weather Service Forecast Office and the Charles County Office of Emergency Management will offer a SKYWARNยฎ Spotter Class on Monday, Sept. 21 at the Charles County Government Building (200 Baltimore Street, La Plata) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

An NWS meteorologist will teach this free class and provide related materials. This course will train you to recognize features associated with developing, mature, and dissipating thunderstorms, which cause hazardous weather such as lightning, flooding, hail, tornadoes, and downbursts. Participants will also learn basics about winter weather and tropical hazards.

At the end of the course, you will be assigned a SKYWARNยฎ spotter number which is maintained in the official database at the NWS in Sterling, Virginia. You will be instructed how to report vital weather information.
