St. Mary’s County, MD — The National Weather Service in Baltimore MD/Washington has issued a coastal flood advisory, which is in effect until 2 p.m. this afternoon.

A coastal flood watch will be in effect from coastal flood watch from 7p.m. Monday until 4 a.m. Tuesday.

* LOCATIONS…Shoreline in St. Mary’s County.

* TIDAL DEPARTURE…One and a half to two feet above normal, with
ย  the highest departures tonight.

* TIMING…Around the time of high tide today and tonight, with
ย  the one tonight being the higher of the two. High tide has
ย  already occurred this morning at Point Lookout, while it will be
ย  at 11:23 AM at Piney Point and 11:59 AM at Coltons Point.
ย  Tonight, high tide will be at 10:53 PM at Point Lookout, 11:37
ย  PM at Piney Point and 12:13 AM at Coltons Point.

* IMPACTS…Up to one foot of inundation above ground level is
ย  possible, with the highest inundation expected tonight. At 3.5
ย  feet, water covers roads on Saint George Island, is in yards,
ย  and is approaching structures. To the east, inundation is
ย  occurring at multiple marinas off St. Mary`s River, Smith Creek,
ย  and Jutland Creek.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.

A Coastal Flood Watch means that conditions favorable for
flooding are expected to develop. Coastal residents should be
alert for later statements or warnings, and take action to
protect property.
