St. Mary’s County, MD — The National Weather Service in Baltimore MD/Washington has issued a coastal flood advisory, which is in effect until 2 p.m. this afternoon.
A coastal flood watch will be in effect from coastal flood watch from 7p.m. Monday until 4 a.m. Tuesday.
* LOCATIONS…Shoreline in St. Mary’s County.
* TIDAL DEPARTURE…One and a half to two feet above normal, with
the highest departures tonight.
* TIMING…Around the time of high tide today and tonight, with
the one tonight being the higher of the two. High tide has
already occurred this morning at Point Lookout, while it will be
at 11:23 AM at Piney Point and 11:59 AM at Coltons Point.
Tonight, high tide will be at 10:53 PM at Point Lookout, 11:37
PM at Piney Point and 12:13 AM at Coltons Point.
* IMPACTS…Up to one foot of inundation above ground level is
possible, with the highest inundation expected tonight. At 3.5
feet, water covers roads on Saint George Island, is in yards,
and is approaching structures. To the east, inundation is
occurring at multiple marinas off St. Mary`s River, Smith Creek,
and Jutland Creek.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
A Coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
A Coastal Flood Watch means that conditions favorable for
flooding are expected to develop. Coastal residents should be
alert for later statements or warnings, and take action to
protect property.
