The College of Southern Maryland is holding open auditions for the upcoming productions โBut I Said Noโ and โLysistrataโ beginning at 6 p.m. Jan. 27 and 28 at the Fine Arts Center on the La Plata Campus, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata. Those auditioning must prepare a one-minute monologue. The auditions are open for community members ages 18 and older.
CSM Cause Theatre will present โBut I Said Noโ March 12-29 on allย
three campuses. This educational theater piece on acquaintance rape hasย
received national acclaim and has toured extensively on college campusesย
throughout the country.
CSMโs Renaissance Festival will present โLysistrataโ April 25 andย
26 at the La Plata Campus. โLysistrataโ is among the few survivingย
plays written by Aristophanes. Originally performed in Athens in 411 BC,ย
it is a comic account of one womanโs extraordinary mission to end theย
Peloponnesian War. The play is notable for being an early expose ofย
sexual relations in a male-dominated society.
