ST. CHARLES, Md. – Commission Amanda Stewart released the following statement Nov, 27 regarding the problems with the roadway on Stone Ave:

“Stone Avenue has been closed for the past couple of months as the county is working to replace a culvert pipe beneath the roadway. Through a combination of record rainfall and significant structural damage to the road, the area is unsafe for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Public safety remains a top priority and the county is taking immediate… action to construct fencing to reinforce current barricades that restrict access to the damaged roadway. A new, custom-fitted culvert pipe has been ordered specific to the site location. We appreciate our residents’ patience as we await its arrival, which is expected in late January.

I am also aware of other issues across the county. I am in the process of organizing an opportunity to discuss land disturbance events, sinkholes, etc. with homeowners, county staff, insurance companies, and other stakeholders that are affected by land disturbances. I believe we need to have an opportunity to understand why this is happening, who is responsible, and corrective action options.

You will receive more information in the near future.”
