Understanding the role economic development plays in St. Mary’s County, the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County paused to observe the week of October 26 – November 1 as Economic Development Week.
Commissioners issued a proclamation which recognized the Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA) and St. Mary’s County Department of Economic Development’s efforts to spur economic development in the county. The Department of Economic Development is a member of MEDA.
“MEDA’s mission is to enhance the knowledge and skills of its members and encourage partnerships and networking among those committed to bringing jobs and investment to Maryland.” said Commissioner Dan Morris. “MEDA’s members promote the economic well-being of Maryland by working to improve the State’s business climate.”
The proclamation also acknowledged the one year anniversary of the commissioners’ decision to reestablish the Economic Development Commission. The 13 member group, representing various local industry sectors, has been meeting monthly since May and is charged with overseeing the development of a comprehensive economic development strategy to diversify the County’s future economy.
Commissioners encouraged all citizens to recognize and reaffirm the importance of Economic Development Week both within the county and across the state.
