On Tuesday, April 25, the Board of Commissioners proclaimed Saturday, April 29 as Skip the Straw Day in Charles County. Drinking straws become a landfill item when discarded and can be harmful to marine life in many ways. The J.C. Parks Elementary School Green Team encourages all residents to consider the environmental impacts of straw usage and to celebrate the day by drinking without straws, or using bamboo, paper, glass, or stainless steel straws instead of plastic.
