Leonardtown, MD – The Constitution of the United States of America is regarded as the
guardian of this countryโ€™s liberties. It embodies the principles of government in a Republic dedicated to rule by law. To mark the 230th anniversary of its drafting, the Commissioners of St. Maryโ€™s County have declared Constitution Week in the county.

The U.S. Constitution was written on September 17, 1787, by the Constitutional Convention.

โ€œIt is fitting and proper to accord official recognition to this magnificent document and its
memorable anniversary,โ€ said Commissioner President Randy Guy.
Public Law 915 guarantees the issuance of a Proclamation which recognizes the week of September 17 through 23 as Constitution Week.

In declaring Constitution Week, the Commissioners of St. Maryโ€™s County encourages all citizens to study the Constitution and reflect on the privilege of being an American with all the rights and responsibilities which that privilege involves.
