On Tuesday, Dec. 9, the Charles County Board of Commissioners proclaimed December 2014 as Impaired Driving Prevention Month. Impaired driving impacts the entire United States, causing at least one alcohol-related fatality every 51 minutes. Preventing impaired driving can save and enhance the safety of citizens throughout the country.
In Maryland, approximately 32 percent of traffic fatalities are caused by alcohol or drug impaired drivers. Impaired driving leads to injury and property damage, as well as physical, emotional and economic hardship for thousands of people annually.
The Charles County Commissioners recognize the importance of preventing impaired driving and encourage residents to drive responsibly this holiday season. In effort to prevent impaired driving, the Commissioners also encourage citizens to designate a sober driver or make alternative transportation arrangements when needed.
