“It is unfortunate the current economic crisis has forced some of our citizens to seek alternative shelter to minimize their living expenses. We have been aware of these circumstances in some locations throughout the County and we have reached out to this population to ensure each ofย the homeless persons that qualify are receiving the appropriate services and are in contact with the Department of Social Services for follow up.ย The Department of Social Services is working with other allied agencies to provide additional services for this population.
As a board of Commissioners, we remain committed to helping all citizens in Charles County.ย We will continue to work toward achieving our goals of providing affordable housing and more jobs for our citizens so situations like this are nonexistent.ย This economy has presented many challenges to much of the nation, we remain steadfast to ensuring Charles County will emerge from this recession in a position to continue to grow and offer quality services to all.
In Charles County we have a proactive Homeless and Emergency Shelter Committee that meets every other month to address the needs of the homeless population.ย The Committee is made up of multiple human service agencies across the County working to eliminate homelessness and help to facilitate the recovery of the homeless.โ
