The timing for Richard U. Sewell to be saluted for his service seemed quite appropriate. Calvert County Government personnel worked around the clock over the weekend during Hurricane Irene. On Tuesday, Aug. 30, the Calvert County Commissioners recognized Sewell, a communications officer at the county control center, as Employee of the Month for August.
Sewell was singled out for being the control centerโs call taker in July, answering nearly 400 calls to 9-1-1 and nearly 500 administration calls. He was also lauded for helping extensively train a rookie communications officer.
โRichard scores high in all three disciplines of: emergency medical dispatch, emergency police dispatch and emergency fire dispatch,โ stated Kim Gott, chair of the Employee Recognition Committee (ERC). โHe is always willing to work extra hours whenever needed.โ
โHeโs enthusiastic about his job,โ said ERC spokesman Mark Willis.
โHeโs our shining star,โ said Assistant Communications Chief Rebecca Weems. โHeโs very calm and he conveys that calm when heโs on the phone and the radio.โ
Sewell joined Weems and Communications Chief Yvette Myers in accepting a proclamation from the commissioners, declaring September as Calvert County Preparedness Month.
