Alehandro “Jerry” Brown
Leonardtown, MD — A Lexington Park man has been sentenced to five years in the Maryland Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to distribution of cocaine. Alehandro โJerryโ Brown, 43, was sentenced Aug. 28 in St. Maryโs County Circuit Court by Judge Michael Stamm.
Brown was originally convicted of drug possession in 2013 and given an 18-month sentence, but six months of that was suspended. Then Brown was nabbed in a sting operation dubbed Operation Undivided Attention in which multiple arrests were made to dismantle a drug distribution network. Brown was charged with distribution.
Brown pled guilty to drug distribution on Oct. 17, 2014, but the sentencing was delayed because of his family issues. Then Brown was apprehended earlier this month on several open warrants for failure to appear on a violation of probation charge in connection with the drug possession charge. When he was arrested cocaine and a digital scale covered in cocaine residue were confiscated.
At the Aug. 29 sentencing hearing Brownโs attorney, public defender Kevin Hill, noted that his client had lost a child and another had been injured. He said his client was in need for substance abuse counseling.
Sentencing guidelines for the crime in Maryland are five to 10 years. Assistant Stateโs Attorney Julie White asked for sentencing within the guidelines. Stamm imposed the sentence at the low end of the guidelines at five years straight time without any suspended sentence. He did make the back-up six months for violation of probation concurrent with the five-year sentence.
Judge Stamm asked that Brown be sent to Patuxent Institution so that he can receive the substance abuse treatment there.
