At approximately 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24,ย police attempted to stop aย motorcycle on Medley’s Neck Road.ย The driver was speeding along the road and overtaking other vehicles in front of him, one source told The Bay Net. A short pursuit ensued, confirmed a St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Officer Saturday evening.
Police attempted to stop the driver several times before he finally pulled over.
Once the driver of the vehicle, a 2005 Harley Davidson, complied with the traffic stop, theย driver was suspected of being under the influence of an unknown substance, police said in a report. As roadside tests were being explained, the unidentified suspect produced a knife and threatened the Deputy, according to the report.
Oneย source told Theย Bay Net the driver then began to slice his own face.ย Lt. Alioto told The Bay Net, Sunday, the driver of the bike did begin cutting himself during the stop. According to The Bay Net’s source theย officer allegedly tazered the driver to prevent him from injuring himself further. The driver, however, was unperturbed and climbed from the vehicle, making to attack the officer. The officer reportedly shot the driver, but even after being shot he continued his attack.
The police report confirms that during the course of the confrontation, the deputy fired one round from his agency issued weapon which temporarily stopped the suspect. However, the suspect attempted to flee on foot at which time additional officers were able to place him in custody and immediately administer medical treatment. Lt. Alioto told The Bay Net only a single shot was fired.
The suspect was transported to St. Maryโs Hospital and then to the Washington Hospital Center.ย Police are not releasing the identity of the man at this time, however, an update on his condition is expected this evening.
