The Calvert County Governmentโs Employee Recognition Committee (ERC) presented three scholarships to graduating seniors during the county commissionersโ May 22 meeting. Two of the recipients were daughters of county employees. A third scholarship was presented to a graduating high school senior who works at the Edward T. Hall Aquatic Center.
โThis is a talented group,โ said ERC Member Mark Willis, who explained the grants were awarded based on the applicantsโ academics as well as school and community activities.
The first-place winner was Laura Welch, daughter of account Roxie Welch of the Department of Finance and Budget. Laura will be graduating from Leonardtown High School and will be attending Stevenson University. Her grant totals $1,000.
The second-place winner was Shelby Taylor, who will be graduating from Huntingtown High School (HHS) and attending McDaniel College in the fall. Taylor received a $500 scholarship.
Lindsey Vasko, who will be graduating from HHS next month, received a $500 scholarship. Vasko will attend James Madison University in the fall.
Members of the ERC raise the funds for the scholarships. According to ERC Chair Kim Gott, โan impartial panel of five employees reviewed a total of five applications.โ
โWeโre glad the committee could help you out a bit,โ Commissionersโ President Gerald. W. โJerryโ Clark [R] told the three scholarship recipients.
