Charles County Administrator Dr. Rebecca Bridgett was fired during a closed session meeting on Tuesday afternoon, according to county government employees speaking on the condition of anonymity.ย Bridgett responded Wednesday saying she had no knowledge of it.

โI can’t confirm or deny that because I don’t have any knowledge of that,โ Bridgett said, when asked if she was fired.ย โI was not in the closed session and I did not accompany the commissioners back in the open session.ย I’m just taking the day off.โ

โIt was an honor and pleasure to work with her,โ Commissioner Candice Quinn Kelly (D) said on Wednesday afternoon, after being unable to comment on Tuesday night.ย โOther than that, I have no comment.โ

Housing activist Cornell Posey told TheBAYNET that he ran into Bridgett at WaWa on Wednesday morning and that she told him that she had in fact been fired.ย Posey could not say much more about the conversation, other than that he was supposed to have a meeting with her on Thursday.ย Posey was not surprised at the news, saying, “Everybody knew it was coming”.

Bridgettโs contract is set to officially expire on September 1, 2013.ย Charles County Public Information Officer Crystal Hunt could neither confirm nor deny whether Bridgett was terminated, but did tell TheBAYNET that Deputy County Administrator Roy Hancock has assumed the role of Acting County Administrator, as per his job description.

Bridgett graduated high school in the county at Maurice J. McDonough High School in 1983.ย She got a Bachelorโs Degree in English at Campbell University in North Carolina in 1985 before getting her Masterโs Degree in Special Education at Appalachian State University in 1989.ย In 2000, she received her Doctorate at Nova Southeastern University in Florida.
