At approximately 4 p.m. there was a vehicle crash on the Governor Thomas Johnson Bridge, causing a traffic backup for miles in each direction approaching the bridge.
Volunteer firefighters and rescue squad members along with police responded from Calvert and St. Mary’s to the crash with reported injuries.
Traffic in St. Mary’s County on Route 235 north was still backed up for miles as of 4:45 p.m., and traffic on the Calvert side is also at a standstill.
No further information is yet available on the crash.
