At 12:18 p.m. Oct. 28, TFC S. Van Bennekum of the Leonardtown Barracks responded to Miles Village Drive in Hollywood for a reported theft scheme.ย  The victim advised that on October 27, she received a letter in the mail stating she was a winner of $500,000.ย 

The letter stated that she won the $500,000 from a Pick Five Lottery held on October 18, 2005.ย  Included with the letter was a check for $4,500 and a message to call Curtis Johnson no later than October 28, 2005.

The victim deposited the cashiers check and called the number as requested.ย  The person she contacted stated that the check was to cover legal fees for obtaining the prize money. He further said that in order to claim the prize money she would have to send a money gram to Josh Miller in Louisville, KY to cover the Federal Taxes for the prize money.

The victim told police she sent the money then later found out that the cashiers check was no good.Investigation is continuing.
