At 1:19 a.m. Sept. 30, a 20-year-old Clinton man was inside the Thai Seafood Restaurant located at 2732 Crain Highway in Waldorf when he became involved in an altercation with Jose Maria Echibarria, 27, of Waldorf.

Echibarria stabbed the victim in the lower body and fled the restaurant. Numerous patrons of the restaurant chased Echibarria across the parking lot to the shoulder of Crain Highway where they began to fight.

Cpl. Clark was traveling south on Crain Highway when he observed the large crowd.

As he arrived on the scene, the crowd dispersed and Echibarria was left lying on the ground.

After an investigation determined Echibarria stabbed the victim, Echibarria was arrested and charged with first degree assault. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Civista Medical Center with a non-life-threatening injury. Officer M. Kennedy investigated.
