CSM Business Building Prepares for Renovation Oct. 27 One of La Plata Campusโ Original Structures Gets Extreme Makeover
ย
The College of Southern Maryland will hold a ground breaking ceremony on Oct. 27 for the renovation of one of the collegeโs original structures on the La Plata Campus. In a project that is being called an โExtreme Makeover,โ the Business (BU) Building will expand from one-story to a two-story structure nearly double its original size and will re-situate perpendicular to its present location to complement the current Administration (AD) Building. The project architect is Grimm and Parker and the general contractor is J. A. Scheibel, Inc.
Once completed, the BU Building will provide classroom and laboratory space, and office space for the collegeโs Division of Financial and Administrative Services. Anticipated cost of the project is $9.3 million, with completion anticipated by spring 2012.
The BU Building was built simultaneously as the Administration (AD) Building and Continuing Education (CE) Building in 1968 to create the home of then Charles County Community College.
Following the programโs remarks, the โExtreme Makeover Teamโ of elected officials, CSM officials, project architect and general contractor and event speakers will take part in the demolition of an interior wall.
The event is open to the public, with the program beginning at 1 p.m. outside the BU Building. Inclement weather plans are to bring the event to the Campus Center (CC) lobby.
