The College of Southern Maryland recognized 62 employees with aย combined 855 years of service to the college during the 29th Annualย Service Recognition Ceremony and Reception, Feb. 13 at the La Plataย Campus.

โ€œWhether you are an administrator, a faculty member or supportย personnel, you have been and still are influential in helping ourย students realize their potential,โ€ said CSM Trustee Vice Presidentย Dorothea Holt Smith.

Among those honored were Biological and Physical Sciences Professorย Paul Billeter and Building and Grounds Technician Charles Clark, bothย with 40 years of service.

To put into perspective the length of time that Billeter and Clark haveย spent at the college, Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs Robertย Farinelli told honorees and guests that on their first days at work, theย president of the United States was Gerald Ford; there was no publicย Internet, no Facebook nor Twitter; Bill Gates had just graduated fromย college and Mark Zuckerberg would not be born for another nine years;ย and it was the year that Jimmy Hoffa disappeared.

โ€œPaul has served under four presidents of the college, has beenย instrumental in the Belize spring travel abroad program, heโ€™s been aย true anchor in the Biological and Physical Sciences Department andย heโ€™s been a wonderful colleague,โ€ said Farinelli.

Clark was honored not only for his years of service but also for hisย kindness to students.

โ€œWhen you walk around campus, you will see [Clark] talking withย students and directing them educationally. Anything of concern toย students is a concern to Charles,โ€ said CSM Financial andย Administrative Services Vice President Tony Jernigan. โ€œCharles hasย told me, โ€˜These students have a lot to offer,โ€™ and that speaks
volumes to his passion for the success of our students.โ€

In addition to Billeter and Clark, recognized for the longest years ofย service at the ceremony, other employees marking increments of fiveย years of service were honored.
