A program geared toward providing Calvert County’s top high school
graduates with a rigorous academic experience is available through the
College of Southern Maryland’s Presidential Scholars Program.

Presidential Scholars will benefit from challenging academic
curriculum, mentoring opportunities, personalized support, small class
sizes and scholarship support. Students will also have the opportunity
to study abroad, engage in internships and research projects, attend
monthly luncheons with speakers and participate in the National Honors
Society.

Scholars will have guaranteed transfer admission options to more than
40 public and private universities, including George Mason University,
The George Washington University, Howard University, St. Mary’s
College of Maryland, Towson University, University of Maryland College
Park, Virginia Commonwealth University and Frostburg University.

The scholars program is supported by the Florence B. Trueman
Scholarship Fund of Calvert County with students receiving scholarships
of 25 percent of tuition in their freshman year and 50 percent in their
sophomore year.

To be considered for the program, students must be residents of Calvert
County, be ranked in the top 10 percent of their graduating class, test
or be placed into college-ready courses for mathematics, English and
reading skills, and file a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student
Aid). Applications showing interest are due April 15.
