
A storm system came through the Southern Maryland area last night, bring with it 60 mph winds that caused widespread damage in the Southern Maryland area. Many areas experienced winds averaging 60 mph.ย
Many trees and power lines came down as a result of the high sustained wind. Southern Maryland VFD’s and St.Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, Charles County Sheriff’s Office, and Calvert County Sheriff’s Office handled many 911 calls.ย
SMECO treated over 5,000 customers who were in the dark due to this storm. A current update on power outages shows that only 1,200 customers are still without power.ย
