Lexington Park, MD— On Feb.5, St.Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Austin Schultz responded to Indian Way in Lexington Park for a report of an assault.ย 

When Schultz arrived on the scene, he made contact with the victim and the defendant, who was identified as Robert A. Elam, 59 of Lexington Park.ย 

According to the victim, she and the defendantย were in a verbal argument about going out last night and not returning home until early this morning. During the argument, the victim advised she got into a vehicle and attempted to leave.

While doing so, “the defendant reached into his vehicle and forcibly removed the keys from the ignition as the victim was trying to start the vehicle, this caused the victim to sustain a small stretchย on her right hand,” according to charging documents.ย 

The victim also advised she then got out of the vehicle, “and was pushed by the defendant; this caused her to fall on top of her four-year-old son.,” according to charging documents. The fall did cause a small cut on the victim’s left ring finger which she believesย occurred when she fell to the ground.ย 

The defendant was placed under arrest and transported to St.Mary’s County Detention Center where he was charged with second-degree assault.ย 

Elam has a court date scheduled for April 21 at the St.Mary’s County District Court. Elam faces a maximum jail sentence of 10 years and or a maximum fine of $2,500.ย
