U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta will be making his first visit to Patuxent River Naval Air Station on Friday. An earlier scheduled visit late last year was postponed.
Panetta is coming to Pax River at the invitation of Rep. Steny Hoyer (D: 5th). As part of the visit the secretary will tour the base facilities and “see firsthand the talent and world class capabilities of Pax River, and its role in supporting future weapons systems and providing direct support to troops engaged in combat today,” according to an advisory released by Hoyer’s office.
Joining Panetta will be Acting Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, The Honorable Frank Kendall, and other Defense officials to learn more about the capabilities at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, the headquarters for the Naval Air Systems Command.
Panetta assumed the defense secretary position of July 1, 2011. The details of the visit have not yet been released.
