Annapolis, MD – In May 2015, Governor Larry Hogan vetoed six bills. In a purely partisan vote, Democrats recently reversed the Governor Hogan’s vetoes.
Here are the bills:
Senate Bill (SB) 190: Sales Use and Tax- Taxable Price- Accommodations, a bill that increases taxes on third party vendors on travel websites and travel agencies.
SB340: Election Law- Voting Rights- Ex-Felons, a bill allowing an individual released from prison early, but still serving their sentence under supervision of a parole officer, to vote.
SB517: Criminal Law- The Use and Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia, a bill that would consider smoking marijuana in public a civil offense, and would eliminate criminal penalties for the possession of marijuana-related paraphernalia.
SB528: Criminal Procedure- Seizure and Forfeiture, a bill that establishes that the first $300 be returned to an individual when an amount greater than $300 is seized by law enforcement, including by drug dealers.
House Bill (HB)209: Howard County- Room Rental Tax- Room Rental Fee Ho. Co. 12-15, a bill similar to SB 190: Sales and Use Tax- Taxable Price- Accommodations. Increases taxes on third party vendors on travel websites and travel agencies in Howard County.
HB71: The Maryland Consolidated Capital Bond Loan of 2015, a bill that authorizes the state debt as $1,063,670,134, to be used for specified building, construction, demolition, planning, renovation, conversion, replacement, and capital equipment purchases of the State, for acquiring specified real estate for these purposes, and for grants to specified subdivisions and other organizations for development and improvement.
