LEONARDTOWN, MD — All event-goers at the First Friday event in Leonardtown had to do to win big was to take selfies with crabs around town.ย

While the event was rained out June 3, event-goers still had the opportunity to go on the second annual Scavenger Hunt in the hopes of winning two half-day kayak rentals from Patuxent Adventure Center. Event goers could take โ€˜selfiesโ€™ with various interpretations of Crabby at participating businesses and finish up at the Yellow Door to enter for the contest, said Ellen Lewis, chairman of the First Friday committee.

โ€œThe winner of the two half-day kayak rentals from Patuxent Adventure Center will not be announced until this Friday evening at the Leonardtown Business Association meeting,โ€ said Lewis. โ€œEvery first Friday of the month, Leonardtown hosts an event with a different theme to bring the community together for family fun.โ€

The goal of hosting the events is to help Leonardtown become a unique tourist destination. Hosted in the downtown area, event themes vary from the local arts and music scene, as well as be the destination for family fun or date nights, said Lewis.ย

The Leonardtown Business Association already has First Friday events in the works, including a patriotic jam band night and other themes.ย

The June event planned to have live music, gallery receptions, plus specials at the stores and restaurants during the event, said Dan Burris, Mayor of Leonardtown.ย

โ€œWe planned to have a jazz ensemble perform at the event, but the rain started and they had to pack up,โ€ said Burris.

Featured businesses included North End Gallery, Big Larryโ€™s Comic Book Cafรฉ, Dragonfly Designs, Good Earth Natural Foods Company, Fenwick Street Used Books and Music, Caught My Eye, Opal Fine Art, BTB Coffee Bar and Speakeasy, The Historical Society at Tudor Hall, and The Craft Guild Shop.
