La Plata, MD – State authorities reported a 16-foot-by-20-foot shed was destroyed by a fire Wednesday, March 23 in Charles County. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Hudson Drive in La Plata.
Forty firefighters from La Plata were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze and brought the flames under control in 30 minutes. No injuries were reported.
“The joint investigation with the Maryland Forestry Service determined the accidental fire was the result of improperly discarded debris ashes, which extended to a nearby shed,” the fire marshal’s office reported.
The estimated loss of the structure and its contents was $20,000.
Authorities reported the shed was owned by Brian and Brandy Phillips.
