Maryland State Fire Marshall’s are investigating a case of arson at a local state park.
Over 25 firefighters from Potomac Heights, Marbury, Bryans Road, Indian Head and Accokeek VFDs responded to report of a fire at Chapman’s State Park off of Glymont Road in Indian Head on June 19 around 3:44 a.m.
Upon arrival, heavy fire and smoke could be seen coming from a two-story log cabin owned by Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Investigation revealed the fire was reported by a nearby witness. The fire was determined to be incendiary in nature and resulted in the structure being completely destroyed.
No injuries were reported.
Damage to the structure is estimated to be $150,000.
