Sheriffโ€™s Office Deputies responded to the Donut Connection in Lexington Park for the reported โ€œRobbery in Progressโ€.

A black male, later identified as Charles Aloyuis Berry,46 of Lexington Park, had entered the establishment armed with what appeared to be a handgun.

His face was covered by two socks and he demanded money. As the first victim was taking orders from the suspect, a second victim exited into the main lobby area and confronted the suspect. A violent struggle ensued.

Deputy Patrick Handy arrived and attempted to apprehend the suspect. As the victims disengaged, Deputy Handy was left only to struggle with the suspect. Additional Officers arrived on the scene and Deputies fought to prevent Berry from gaining access to his waistband as he continuously grabbed at that area of his body.

The victims yelled to Deputies that the suspect โ€œHad a Knifeโ€. Berry was placed into custody and injuries were sustained by several of the parties involved.

Deputy Handy and Deputy Lacey received hand injuries, one of the victims was bit and the other had swelling of his eye. The suspect also received injuries and was transported to St. Maryโ€™s Hospital, treated and released, before being taken to the St. Maryโ€™s County Detention Center.

A knife was located in the suspectโ€™s waistband area and the weapon believed to be a handgun was a second utility style knife.
