โThe free expression of the hopes and aspirations of a people is the greatest and only safety in a sane society.โ โ Emma Goldman
After last weekโs Halloween Safety article I received several emails from companies or organizations involved with safety issues. They asked me to write something regarding their message and I thought, โHave I become the voice of safety or something?โ
Well I thought about it and providing information to save a life, like from my CPR article, isnโt a bad idea, so why not?
So to add to my Halloween Safety article from last week, Matthew Pelletier,
Director of Public Relations Compliance and Safety LLC, wanted me to add a link to more Halloween Safety ideas supported by statistics. Please check out this website, http://complianceandsafety.com/safety-tips/halloween-safety-tips.php, and keep your little Trick or Treatโers safe.
Some of you may have seen the recent story that was on the news about a young boy who pulled the family TV down and killed himself at the age of five.
The Center for Injury Research and Policy of The Research Institute at Nationwide Childrenโs Hospital reported their findings from 1990-2007 regarding furniture tip-overs and children 18 years old and under. They discovered almost 15,000 children each year sustained injuries and were taken to the emergency room from furniture items tipping over on them.
A few of us may think, well it wonโt happen to me, but let me tell you a story too close to my home.
I was headed out the front door and off to work one morning when I heard a huge crash. That was followed by my sonโs screaming. My wife ran from the bedroom and I launched my laptop bag and flew upstairs. There before us was our 30 pound son, in one piece, standing in front of his 150 plus pound dresser that was face-down and smashed on the floor.
Apparently he decided to get a pair of jammies by himself and climbed up. Thinking of what could have happened is pretty scary. When we moved to our new house, tethering the dressers and desks just didnโt rank high on the priority list of everything that needed to be done and was forgotten.
