โDr. Martirano to join three other MD Superintendents at Event to Honor Educatorsโ
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย LEONARDTOWN, MD โ On Wednesday, May 4, 2011, St. Maryโs County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Michael J. Martirano, will join three other Maryland superintendents on the red carpet as a special guest presenter at the 2011 Educators Serving the Community (EduSerc) Awards. The EduSerc Awards is a national ceremony and fundraiser that honors educational achievements of individuals, educators, organizations, and companies. This yearโs event will be held at the Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda, MD.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Dr. Martirano, along with Allegany County Public Schools superintendent, Dr. David Cox, Prince Georgeโs County Public Schools superintendent, Dr. William Hite, and Washington County Public Schools superintendent, Dr. Elizabeth Morgan, will be a special guest presenter at the ceremony announcing the nominees and winner in one of the following awards categories: EduSerc Award to a Teacher; EduSerc Award to an Individual; Role Model/Mentor Award to an Individual; Role Model/Mentor Award to a Teacher; Educator Industry Award in Government to an Individual; Educator Industry Award in Entertainment/Arts to an Individual; Educator Industry Award in Engineering to an Individual; EduSerc Award to a School; EduSerc Award to a Counselor; or Educator Industry Award in Information Technology to an Individual.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Additionally, 2011 EduSerc Image Awards will be given to the following individuals in recognition of their well-known efforts and achievements in impacting communities and by serving as examples for youth and adults: First Lady, Mrs. Michelle Obama, health awareness; Geoffrey Canada, President and CEO of the Harlem Childrenโs Zone; Davis Guggenheim, Director of โWaiting for Supermanโ; and Dean Kamen, founder of U.S. First Robotics Competitions.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย EduSerc was founded in 2004 as a way to improve the image of educators and highlight the value of education in the U.S. In addition to being an awards celebration to honor educational achievements, EduSerc is also a fundraiser that helps the program provide career and professional development resources to young people throughout the country.
