At 12:54 a.m. May 28, Charles County Sheriffโ€™s officers responded to Poplar Hill Road near St. Peterโ€™sย  Church Road in Waldorf for the report of a motor vehicle crash.

Investigation revealed the driver of a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling north on Poplar Hill Road and swerved to avoid a deer. The Jetta left the roadway and struck brick pillars on the side of the road near the entrance of St. Peterโ€™s Church.

The driver, Manuel Edward Marlak, 18, of Benedict, and one of his passengers, Charles David Towers, 18, of Waldorf, were not injured. A second passenger, Chris Edward Hicks, 18, of Waldorf, sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Civista Medical Center. Officer R. Williams investigated the crash.
