At 12:54 a.m. May 28, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Poplar Hill Road near St. Peter’s Church Road in Waldorf for the report of a motor vehicle crash.
Investigation revealed the driver of a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling north on Poplar Hill Road and swerved to avoid a deer. The Jetta left the roadway and struck brick pillars on the side of the road near the entrance of St. Peter’s Church.
The driver, Manuel Edward Marlak, 18, of Benedict, and one of his passengers, Charles David Towers, 18, of Waldorf, were not injured. A second passenger, Chris Edward Hicks, 18, of Waldorf, sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Civista Medical Center. Officer R. Williams investigated the crash.
