The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners has declared April to be Autism Awareness Month and the Drum Point Lighthouse has been lit up in blue to mark the occasion.
The lighthouse, located on the grounds of the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons, is one of Calvert’s most iconic symbols. To light it up in blue, exterior light bulbs that are normally white or clear are changed to blue bulbs
.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in 88 children has been identified with an autism spectrum disorder. Boys are nearly four times more likely to have been diagnosed than girls.
