Solomons, MD –ย Ruddy Duck Brewery will host its inaugural DuckFest on Sunday afternoon Oct. 9. Ruddy Duck co-owner Michael Kelley organized this Oktoberfest-inspired charity event meant to give attendees a tasteย of local and international culture.

On Sunday afternoon, Oct. 9 a first-ever charity event is planned at the Ruddy Duck Brewery and Grill. Attendees will get a taste of local and international culture. Ruddy Duck co-owner Michael Kelley said DuckFest is based on the German celebration of Oktoberfest.

The genuine Oktoberfest is held annually in Bavaria, runs for up to 18 days and attracts several million people who consume nearly 8 million liters of beer. DuckFest will be a slightly smaller affair since in its first year. Still, the Ruddy Duck and the festivalโ€™s parade of corporate participants have something special planned.

Proceeds from the event will aid United Way of Calvert County and a partner agency, Southern Maryland Center for Independent Living.

The event will also spotlight local craft beers from the Ruddy Duck Brewery and Grill of Solomons, Mullyโ€™s Brewery and Calvert Brewing Company.

The entertainment lineup starts at 2 p.m. with Josh Airhart. At 2 p.m. Run Catch Rain is scheduled to perform. Dylan Galvin will play from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m. From 4 to 6 p.m. DuckFestโ€™s headline act, the Ryan Forrester Band, will play. Other events on the entertainment schedule include a yard drinking contest starting at 3 p.m. and a yodeling contest starting at 3:45 p.m.

Along with their sister operationsโ€”Canards Catering, Ruddy Duck Seafood and Alehouse and Cone Island Ice Creamโ€”Ruddy Duck Brewery and Grill will be serving up some fantastic Oktoberfest fare. The authentic German food menu includes the Brewmasterโ€™s Sandwichโ€”a beer brat topped with sauerkraut with a side of Hofbrau slaw. Or you could try the Brewmasterโ€™s Wifeโ€”pork schnitzel topped with sweet and sour red cabbage and served with German potato salad. Dessert includes apple strudel.

In addition to the cost of admission, the local United Way and the Southern Maryland Center for Independent Living will be accepting donations at DuckFest with the sale of raffle tickets. DuckFest general admission costs are $20 per person 21 or older (includes three vouchers for food/drink), $15 per person under 21 (includes two vouchers), $10 for designated drivers (includes two vouchers) and children under 21 free.

Michael Kelley is a United Way of Calvert County board member and he told The BayNet the Southern Maryland Center for Independent Living has touched his life since they have been a great help to his adult-age son. โ€œThey definitely make a difference in our community,โ€ he said.

The beer, the food, the music, yodeling and fun runs from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Ruddy Duck Brewery and Grill on Dowell Road.
