LA PLATA, Md. – A La Plata man has been displaced after an electrical malfunction caught his house fire, Wednesday, April 18. Around noon, a firefighter was traveling on Poorhouse Road saw smoke coming from the back of a home located Mount Pisgah Road, La Plata. The call was dispatched and 40 firefighters led by the Marbury VFD responded and worked to extinguish the blaze in 30 minutes. The overall cost of damage is estimated to be $250,000.ย
The investigation revealed that failure of an electrical switch was the cause of the fire. The homeowner,ย Travis Finkle was displaced and is being assisted by friends.ย There were no injuries as a result of this incident.

Correction: Prior reports taken from dispatch proved to be erroneous. No animals were killed in this incident according to the Fire Marshal’s report.ย

LA PLATA, Md. – On April 18 around noon, fire fighters responded to Mount Pisgah Farmhouse Road and Poorhouse Road, La Plata for the report of a house fire. Arriving units say that the fire was discovered by a neighbor; the homeowners were not home at the time of the incident. Once the blaze was under control, a search of the home revealed at least one and possibly more dogs that died in the fire.ย
Crews and authorities are on scene dousing hot spots and investigating the cause of fire.ย
