One of the very first things I learned in my West Virginia University graduate-level statistics class was this: statistics can lie. Maryland Governor Marvin OโMalley must have taken a similar course at some point in his life. In a news release from the House Republican Caucus Minority Report for Week 3 of the Maryland 2014 Session in Annapolis reporting on OโMalleyโs eighth โ and last! โ State of the State Address given on January 23, OโMalley claims to have cut spending by $9.1 billion during his reign. Reality check: the OโMalley/Brown administration has actually increased spending by close to $10 billion โ plus having raised or created almost 80 separate taxes, fees, and tolls since 2007. David Brinkley, MD Senate Minority leader, further responds by saying OโMalleyโs first budget was just over $29.5 billion; the budget submitted last week is almost $39.5 billion –ย about 33% more over the course of two terms. I received a final grade of โBโ in my statistics class; OโMalley obviously must have earned an โAโ in his as he is truly a master of statisticsโฆ

Hogan has run โChange Marylandโ for the past three years and claims a 75,000-member-strong grassroots GOP-plus Democrats-plus Independents following, all hoping for real change in Maryland in 2014.
