David Willenborg is a candidate for the St. Maryโs County Republican Central Committee. He was born in St. Maryโs County, and graduated from Great Mills High School in 1978. He joined the US Navy in February of 1980, subsequently serving aboard submarines USS Grayback, USS Shark, and USS Memphis before ending his active duty in 1990. He is the recipient of numerous military awards. He has worked as a defense contractor and now works as a federal employee at the Naval Air Station, Patuxent River.
Helping out with a neighborโs campaign for county commissioner began his long-lasting fascination with politics. He has been involved with campaigns for Stateโs Attorney Richard Fritz, McCain/Palin (he was the St. Maryโs County Chair; this campaign won the county), Lollar for Congress, and Stanalonis for Circuit Court. He was selected to fill a vacant seat on the St. Maryโs County Republican Central Committee in January 2009, and was elected Chair in January 2010. He was re-elected to the SMC RCC in September of 2010 and was re-elected to serve as Chair.
During his Chairmanship, an aggressive voter registration effort turned a 2,400 Republican Party voter deficit in 2008 to achievement of plurality in 2012. If elected in the June 2014 Primary, his goals include continuing to build the number of grass roots volunteers, increasing club memberships, increasing fundraising revenues, growing the party membership, and getting Republicans elected to local community committees and boards.ย All of these endeavors will help reach the ultimate goal of getting Republicans elected in the county, and state-wide.
He received the 2008 St. Maryโs Republican Man of the Year Award. He was elected to serve on the MD Electoral College, representing the Republican Party for Marylandโs 5th Congressional district during the 2012 Presidential election. Under his SMC RCC Chairmanship, St. Maryโs County received the County of the Year Award at the 2011 Spring GOP Convention.
Mr. Willenborg currently holds memberships in several organizations which include the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the RNC and the MD GOP.
