On Thursday, December 25, St. Maryโs County Sheriffโs Office Deputies were tracking escaped prisoner Paul Anthony Pitner.
Pitner was an inmate at the St. Maryโs County Detention Center in the work release program. He was taken to courtย yesterday and sentenced to five years in prison. Upon returning to the Detention Center to gather his belongings, he fled from the housing unit.
He is a white male weighing approximately 170 pounds, brown hair and green eyes. Suspect Pitner has tattoos on his neck and back and is wearing a white tee shirt and jail issued striped pants. A โCode Red Alertโ was sent to all effected Leonardtown residents, notifying them of the situation. Within a couple of hours that Code Red Alert was cancelled.
Sheriffโs Office Deputies apprehended Suspect Paul Pitner in the Leonardtown area. Suspect Pitner was located hiding in a wooded area inside the original perimeter set up by first responding Officers.
As the perimeter was maintained by Officers on the ground and Trooper 7 assisting in the air, K-9 Deputies began a track inside the perimeter. Deputies observed movement under a tarp and gave orders for the Suspect to come out. K-9 announcements were made and Suspect Pitner surrendered.
No one was injured as a result of this event. Suspect Pitner was transported to the Detention Center and was served with the additional charge of Escape Second Degree.ย
