NANJEMOY, Md. – An evening house fire destroyed a home in Nanjemoy, Tuesday evening, displacing the occupants.ย 

On Jan. 22, just before 6:00 p.m., a passing motorist reported a house fire on the 8900 block of Bowie Road, Nanjemoy. Units responded and arrived on scene to discover a one-story house with fire throughout the structure.ย 

Officials say 60 firefighters responded to this incident and had the fire under control in 40 minutes.

An investigation revealed the cause of the fire to be a malfunction of the home’s wood burning stove which started a fire in the attic area. Sadly, reports say that a pet rabbit died in the fire and $250,000 worth of structure and contents were destroyed.ย 

Authorities say the occupants are being assisted by the American Red Cross.ย
