Leonardtown, MD — Itโ€™s become an annual event on the Southern Maryland summer schedule. For the fifth year the Butch Nelson Memorial Car Show took place July 18 at the St. Maryโ€™s County Fairgrounds in Leonardtown. And accompanying the car show on the fairgrounds property was a two-day tractor pull. Wheels of different kinds!

The car show benefits Hospice of St. Maryโ€™s and cancer research. It is organized by Mike Evans, a cancer survivor himself. The late Butch Nelson was a long-time antique car show enthusiast, according to Evans.ย  Evans was friends with Nelson and his family and since his death has been showing Nelsonโ€™s beloved 1957 Chevy. The Chevy was prominently displayed at the Saturday show.

The tractor pull was sponsored by Southern Maryland Antique Power Association and proceeds from that also go to charity. The Southern Maryland Antique Power Association was established in 1996 โ€œto provide an association of people who share a mutual interest in the preservation of antique power in all forms for the purpose of sharing our heritage through knowledge.โ€

In addition to the car show and tractor pull local food vendors provided plenty of food and drinks, a swap meet was held and other vendors were also on hand. Music was provided by Spoon Creek and Jessica St. Clair, and the Bay Breeze Band.
